About Us

Pruter's U.S. Martial arts is a true merger of American and Korean cultures. Our martial arts academy began over 25 years ago when a 17 year old girl began taking Taekwondo in Independence Missouri from a Korean immigrant named Master Ko. It is interestingly prophetic that the Korean name of Ko means, “heaven, sky, ever expanding,” because that is what happened to Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts, it ever expanded.

Since that first Taekwondo lesson Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts has grown to a chain of martial arts school's and branch programs that include over 400 loyal and dedicated Taekwondo students. Our commitment to growth as human beings and as a martial arts community has lead to our simplified philosophy, treat all students with equal respect, treat all students like family, and love people and use money, never the other way around. A wise Grand Master and personal friend I.K. Kim once told the Pruter's “if you do what is right everything will be OK.”

Our martial arts program is:

Goal Oriented

Step by step achievement creates the sense of accomplishment with the ultimate goal of joining the community of Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts Black Belt students. Confidence in one's own ability and respect for others create a perfect environment for the advancement in the martial arts and future life goals.

Discipline with a Purpose

Discipline is essential to goals but without purpose it will not have life long drive. Discipline is expected from our student's and our student's can expect from their instructors consistent care and instruction to bring the best out of each student. Real life applications are given to better appreciate purpose behind the art.

Self-Defense

Many people choose the art of Taekwondo for self-defense purposes. We train our students to always use their training to defend themselves only and never for aggressive purposes. Although very disciplined, its very nature is rooted in humility and respect for others; to empower the weak and temper the strong.

Great Physical Conditioning

An excellent form of exercise, Taekwondo training provides you with a full-body workout, increasing flexibility, muscle tone, and aerobic conditioning. Many older students continue in this ancient discipline well into the later years of life, and the best part is, they never get bored.
