Becoming a Black Belt

Becoming a Black Belt is not an easy thing, and in the United States it is often misunderstood. To become a Black Belt at Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts you will need to commit to making it to class two to three times a week for approximately three years. The Black Belt is often thought of as the ultimate goal in the martial arts but in reality it is just the beginning to a life long journey. Black Belt students at Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts are members of a special group of people that realize the belt is just something that wraps around their uniform and that the real Black Belt is imbedded in their hearts and minds in the form of special attitudes.

Courtesy

The first and most important lesson, at Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts, is proper attitude. It has often been said that “Attitude is everything”, and the foundational characteristics of attitude is Courtesy. With Courtesy the student will realize this proven principle will enhance all human relationships, which is a very important part of life.

Integrity

Integrity is the result of learning the importance of consistently living in accordance with one's value system. This includes keeping one's word and accepting the responsibility for one's own actions. By doing this the student gains a reputation for honesty and dependability. With Integrity also comes a lifelong positive influence and a proper role model for the good of others.

Perseverance

The most necessary ingredient in Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts toward the achievement of the Black Belt and all personal goals in life is Perseverance. Perseverance will take the student beyond the average accomplishments of those who do not learn its value. Anything of value has a price and the higher the price the greater the need for Perseverance, as Perseverance is acquired, so also is patience and contentment; very basic needs in life.

Self-Control

From a child we learn the importance of controlling one's self in many different types of circumstances. As the student, through discipline, learns the value of self-control so also comes the benefit of focus and follow through. In completing any level of education the need for focus and follow through is imperative.

Indomitable Spirit

The Indomitable Spirit is a key ingredient to the martial arts and is closely related to perseverance. It is the refusal, in spirit, to be dominated by opposition. It is the will to “get up and go again.” Great men and women of history all had this feature in common. The least naturally skilled student, given an Indomitable Spirit, will achieve more in life then the most athletically skilled will without it.
